Nye County Sheriff's Office reports an 8.4% Crime Rate Drop
Beginning in 1994, the Nevada Department of Public Safety began publishing in the Uniform Crime Reporting data collected by participating Nevada Counties.

The Nye County Sheriff's Office has been participating in this program in Nevada since 1994.

The Nye County Sheriff’s Office reports that in 2008 the crime rate dropped by 8.4% from 2007 to 22.99%, with an 11.6% increase in crimes solved. From 2003 to 2008 the crime rate has dropped 34.93% while there has been a over a 22% increase in population.

The Nevada State Demographer indicates the population of Nye County has remained steady for 2007-2008, which gives a good indication of the Sheriff's Office success to lessen victimization to the citizens they serve.

This crime rate reduction can be attributed to the on going partnership that the Sheriff's Office has with the community which we serve through Neighborhood and Business Watch Programs, crime prevention programs, and the dedication of the men and women in uniform who serve the public.

There was a 6% decrease in the amount of reported motor vehicle accidents which can be attibuted to an increase in the number of saturation patrol's performed by the Sheriff's Office, increased driver awareness, the addition of intersection warning devices which were provided to the Nye County Public Works by a Grant, approved by data supplied by the Crime Anaylst of the Sheriff's Office.

Lets join together in assuring that this decrease in crime continues in the future.
