The Sheriff’s Auxiliary in Pahrump, Nevada works side by side with many agencies besides law enforcement. Applications are presently available either on line or at the NCSO.
Unknown to many, working behind the scenes, auxiliary members were out in June and July directing traffic and assisting the local fire department, BLM, Sheriff’s Deputies plus others into the early hours of the morning when dry weeds and lightning strike fires were a critical factor for residents in the Pahrump Valley. Some Aux. members came out on their own before later being called upon to do so. The burn ban continues to remain in effect for Nye County, Nevada.
Labor day weekend once again brings the auxiliary out patrolling checking neighborhoods, and if all goes according to plan we shall also be accommodating those citizens who safely need a ride home. Hours may vary but mainly set for 10 PM to 2 AM on any of the following three nights, Friday, Sept. 2nd, Saturday Sept. 3rd, and Sunday Sept.4th.
While law enforcement elsewhere is getting ready to meet another Labor Day weekend, it’s possible, but not finalized as of this date of news release a DUI/ speed checkpoint may be set-up at one of Pahrump’s most prone for accident intersections or at a heavily traveled highway. If so, we will once again be involved with Sheriff’s deputies at the final checkpoint. Buckle up.
September 29 is the date set for Pahrump’s fall festival. A command post unit or, (C P) will be set-up internally in Petrack Park where auxiliary members and deputies will be on hand assisting the public with different situations that may arise, area information, finding lost children, and retrieving lost and found articles to say the least.
Schools in but kids are out, walking to school or waiting for a school bus. Be aware, auxiliary vehicles are also equipped with a front and rear Radar device. They may be parked near school zones or driving down the highway utilizing this speed checking system at any time.
This is to inform drivers of their responsibility to obey all reduced speed limit signs in, near or around school zones, during school hours whether flashing or not, if activity is taking place in the school area or just slowing down when children are present playing. Quick thinking combined with quick action behind the wheel could save a life.
“Straight from the Horse’s Mouth"
