A person comes to your door and says, “I can pave your driveway for a reasonable amount of money.” This person shows up on the day and time with a work crew, they work on your driveway all day, and at the end of the day, your driveway is done. You receive a bill for the amount that was agreed upon, or maybe a little more, and the crew departs.
What you find out later (especially when it rains) is that the black driveway you now have is actually black paint, or worse yet, motor oil. You may also discover that some of your personal items inside your house are missing. Maybe they have asked to use the bathroom, or for a drink of water and you let them in your house.
What has happened is you have been the victim of a scam that has been affecting not only Las Vegas, but other areas of the country.
There are some helpful tips located in the March 17, 2005 article under the “Crime Stoppers” section of the Nye County Sheriff's Office Internet newspaper. The best way to prevent yourself from being a victim of a scam is “do not accept a contract or work from a person who comes to you.” Research the business and make contact with a reputable business yourself.
One person who is allegedly a part of this scam is one Fletcher Casey, of Casey Paving out of California. Casey has contacted several citizens of Nye County and offered a driveway free of charge to them. What he is not telling people of Nye County is he supposedly does not have a business license in Nevada. Furthermore the Nevada Secretary of State shows Casey Paving, LLC license is “revoked.” Information obtained from the Pahrump Valley Times, is the driveways are being completed, however, Casey is returning and allegedly telling people their driveway needs to be “finished”. He then insists the citizens pay him monies to “finish the job”, otherwise he will place a lien on their property for the balance due. This balance is allegedly between $2,000 and $20,000.
