Starting in August the Sheriff’s Auxiliary is going to be submitting articles for the Sheriff’s Office online news. The Sheriff’s Auxiliary is a very important part of the Sheriff’s Office by serving subpoenas, parking citations, and many other functions that would take up time from patrol.

The Sheriff’s Auxiliary with the addition of six new volunteers, which have been added since January this year is now up to twenty-four (24) members. All members must attend in house training classes, before and during their time with the Sheriff’s Office. Some are presently in training.

July 2005 saw the Auxiliary helping with A nighttime DUI checkpoint which was set up on a heavily traveled 2-lane road for vehicles entering and leaving Pahrump. Seat belts and other infractions were also being checked. Six S.A.U. members were on hand rendering assistance to Sheriff personnel.

August 6th was Pahrump’s “safe night 2005.” This year’s event was a total success without a hitch. There was participation by many including those from the Sheriff’s volunteers assisting by keeping a watchful eye making sure everything went smoothly for participants and citizens. In view for the public was our Neighborhood Watch vehicle. Safe night was adapted in the U.S. many years ago when the people were tired of their neighborhoods being terrorized by gangs and thugs. It was their way of saying, “we’re going to take a bite out of crime.”

Saturday, August 20th, 6pm to 6am is the schedule set for the American Cancer Society Benefit (walk-run) event. These runs are of two folds. Besides contributing by being in the event itself to help mankind, it is also beneficial to an individual’s health by loosing unwanted pounds.
Sheriff Auxiliary members will also be there. We anticipate 6 teams of two, each contributing 2 hours each for a total of 12 hours. They’ll be on the sidelines for this invaluable “relay for life” run taking place. For out of Towner’s, Petrack Park is located at the North end of Highway 160 at Basin Road, in Pahrump, Nevada.

Driving a vehicle in a willful or wanton disregard of the safety of persons or property, or driving a vehicle in an unauthorized speed contest on a public highway is considered, “RECKLESS DRIVING.” If this act causes death or bodily harm to persons other than your self, you will be guilty of a category B felony and shall be imprisoned for not less than (1) year “nor” more than (6) years or by a fine of not more than $5,000, or by both fine and imprisonment. Drive with sense!

Buckle up—Don’t Drink & Drive
